Chef Evan Howes was born and raised in Calgary. He got his first job cooking at the age of fifteen and graduated from SAIT’s Culinary Program in 2008. To explore the cooking field, he moved to Montreal and then on to Toronto. He has been at Wild Rose for 4 years, and was promoted to Chef in 2020.

What made you want to become a chef?

“I have enjoyed cooking since I was very young, and my first chef was a huge inspiration on me becoming a Chef.”

Why do you use Alberta ingredients in your kitchen?

“I use Alberta products because I enjoy supporting local farms and businesses.”

What is your favourite Alberta ingredient to use?

“While working at Wild Rose, I have found a new appreciation for cooking with beer and bison.”

What dish should guests be sure to try on your menu?

“Our bison brisket sandwich is a great meal that uses local bison and our craft beer. “

What is a favourite kitchen/cooking memory?

“My favorite cooking memory is making home made pizza with my dad when I was a child.”

“I enjoy taking part of Alberta on The Plate because it helps grow a strong community of local suppliers and businesses.”
