Chef Luis Gonzalez was born and raised in Mexico City, and he came to Canada in 2009. He worked for the Fairmont Hotels for 10 years (and some other places). In 2018, his dream to have his own restaurant came to life with Abe’s Modern Diner in Airdrie.
What made you want to become a chef?
“Some of my best memories when I was a kid were in the kitchen, either cooking with my mom or with my grandma.”
Why do you use Alberta ingredients in your kitchen?
“For me, supporting local and sustainable is the best part of any ingredient use.”
What is your favourite Alberta ingredient to use?
“Alberta beef of course!”
What dish should guests be sure to try on your menu?
“Our Elk burger.”
What is a favourite kitchen/cooking memory?
“Prepping and Cooking Christmas dinners with my mom.”

“To bring awareness of the great products than this beautiful province has to offer.”
