The Alberta food story and what comprises Alberta local food is not just the agriculture sector, but also the wild edibles that have shaped our land long before agriculture became a major industry. Forage on the Farm events bring together local farms, chefs and foragers to create unique experiences exploring the natural ingredients found across Alberta.

Join us for Tacos, at our second Taco Party of the summer of 2019 with Chef Victor Hugo Raya. Victor will be serving up plates of 5 tacos, served on his own homemade tortillas and together with Cilantro Rice, Refried Beans and a Prairie Gardens Salad. And at our Bar, enjoy locally brewed DJANGO Spiced White Beer from Ale Architect. Victor will be cooking shoulder of pork, sourced from Irvings Farm Pork, al Pastor style in his Vertical Oven. Farmers Gathering – Farm Tour Potluck Social 1:00pm to 8:00pm at Rosy Farms, 57114 Range Road 264, Alcomdale Tickets: $20* plus applicable fees
This farm tour is one you most certainly won’t want to miss! We’ll be visiting three farms that highlight the incredible diversity of producers in Central Alberta, including a haskap orchard, a rotational-grazing ranch and a hydroponics lettuce grower. During a walk around of each farm, the farmers will talk about how they started up, how their operation is unique, their future plans for the operation, and share advice to people wanting to enter the industry. We hope that you will join us for the August edition of our monthly From the Farm cooking class series. Kathryn and Elyse will be joined by our friend Tam Andersen, proprietor of Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm, for a menu featuring her local produce, harvested for your class. Throughout our multi-course menu we will be focused on Tam’s produce, and choosing ingredients and products from other artisanal producers, growers and local businesses in our region to complement them. We hope that you will join us for a meal designed to get you cooking with the season, and celebrating the incredible people and ingredients that make our city and province such a tasty place to live!

Join us for a unique experience, as you discover the natural edibles in the uncultivated areas of Grey Arrow 35 Acre Farm. The forage walk, led by Jenn Doucet of Roots of the Earth Wellness, will shine a light on some of the natural edible plants on the farm, helping you to identify some tasty indigenous plants of the region. Wander by the hives, from Wildflower Bride, as we see the busy workers that pollinate the plants. Wrapping up the edible plant walk by viewing the organic vegetables grown at Grey Arrow, with owners Andrea & Denis Forstbauer.
After the walk, be prepared to be treated to a specially selected picnic dinner created by Chef Jade Patton, of Hart House Wine & Tapa, as we experience the bounty of the region. Dinner will showcase tasty selections, such as Alberta Beef, and local diary, topped off by a sampling of local craft beer and spirits. The dinner will be accompanied by local musical artist, Emily Mae, who will be providing the perfect ambiance for this outdoor experience.

Come meet your rural neighbours! Alberta Open Farm Days is a province-wide open house. It’s about farmers and ranchers inviting their urban and rural neighbors to stop in for a visit to share stories, see demonstrations, and learn more about the farmers who grow their food. As well, some of Alberta’s most talented chefs and rural communities will be hosting a memorable series of farm to table culinary events that will be held around the province using Alberta farm products. The Farmers’ and Makers Market at cSPACE Event Showcase 10:00am to 3:00pm at 1721 – 29 Avenue SW, Calgary
Get “Inspired by Local” this August 17th at the Farmers & Makers Market at cSPACE as we present an exciting event showcasing our local farmers, growers and makers in celebration of Alberta Local Food Week and Alberta Open Farm Days 2019!
Join us on Saturday, August 17 at 10:30, 12 noon, and 1:30 for free Chef-led tours around the Market to select locally-grown seasonal ingredients that will then be featured in a short cooking demo followed by sampling the dishes prepared! Learn about the local bounty available at the Market, get to know your Farmers & Meet your Makers first hand, guided by some of Calgary’s favourite Chefs; then get inspired as our Chefs show you how to create a fresh & local meal, and then chat local food while tasting the meal!
Tours will start and end in The Courtyard at the Market, and are limited to 18 guests on a first come basis. Demonstrations will immediately follow the tour with space for up to 40.
As always, we will have live music, food trucks, and free children’s activities running all market long, 10am – 3pm at 1721 29 Avenue SW in Marda Loop.

Join us for a taste of local with this special 5 course dinner at Prairie Gardens, in celebration of and in partnership with Alberta Open Farm Days. Travel out to the farm at Bon Accord (just 25km North of Edmonton on 97 St) for a magical longtable dinner!
You’ll begin your night with welcome canapés, cooked with you over an open wood fire. Then you will join proprietor Tam Andersen for an exploratory farm tour. And finally, we’ll settle down for our five-course dinner at the communal long tables in Prairie Gardens’ beautiful greenhouse. We’ll be serving a menu chosen to highlight the diversity of delicious produce, herbs and flowers grown on Tam’s farm, and cooking a lamb from the farm and other locally sourced seafood and meats as well.
