Established in 2015, they are a Metis family-owned and operated business that spans two generations. They have become a destination for tourists and locals for the nostalgic, old-fashioned feeling of the store.

When you walk in the wood floors will creak, and you might smell fresh-made cinnamon buns or coffee, they have an amazing inventory of over 2,000 items to delight the eye, and the convenience of being a one-stop gift shop & cafe.

The Leduc Coffee Shop boasts handmade soups, sandwiches, and treats in a historic 100-year-old building located in the heart of Leduc. The Coffee Shop also offers guests a seasonal patio. Locals and Tourists can enjoy a range of coffees — from your locally roasted coffee to fancy, espresso-based coffees — as well as teas and other cold drinks. Come and try their famous Cinnamon Buns that attract customers from all over central Alberta and beyond.

For Karen Richert, great food starts with simple, honest ingredients and the memories of growing up on a farm. Raised in a family where meals were made from scratch, she learned early that the best recipes come from fresh ingredients, hard work, and making the most of what you have on hand.

Her goal is simple: serve wholesome, handcrafted food that feels like home—made from scratch, made with heart, and made with the very best Alberta has to offer.

What made you want to be a chef?

Karen enjoys baking and bringing people together over good food.

Why do you use Alberta ingredients in your kitchen?

Karen is passionate about supporting Alberta farmers and producers whenever possible. Using locally grown and locally made ingredients make Alberta unique. Every sandwich, soup, baked good, and specialty item crafted isn’t just about freshness—it’s about celebrating the people and communities with the same care, creativity, and farm-to-table values she grew up with.

What is your favourite Alberta ingredient to use?

Our lettuce comes from Akamihk fresh-a 100% indigenous owned company. The lettuce is fresh, crisp and grown here. We are proud to support indigenous owners as we too are Metis owned.

What dish should guests be sure to try on your menu?

The Mainstreet Melt is perfect for anyone craving a bold Alberta twist on a grilled sandwich! We are featuring 2 local Leduc ingredients with this one: Beef Jerky and Fresh Dill!

What is your favourite kitchen/cooking memory?

From rolling perogy dough to preserving the harvest and creating hearty family meals, the farm kitchen taught Karen that quality doesn’t have to be complicated. Those lessons continue to inspire every dish she creates today. Spending a full day digging up potatoes with her sisters and then gathering around the table to eat them for supper with a fresh dill sauce was absolute perfection and a great memory of sharing stories, food and hard work.
